Personal Consumer Issues • AC issues - replace FAN only or condenser unit?

I had a 20+ year old Lennox condenser which would eventually need replacing but that would mean a new coil and that would mean a new furnace. But it still had enough refrigerant do the job. The tech wanted $1000 to replace the fan. I ordered the fan online for around $300 and installed it myself with just a couple wrenches. The fan basically just sits there inside the unit and is hooked up with a few wires. It took me an hour or two to figure it all out but wasn't difficult and has run fine ever since. Tech gave me a thumbs up on it a few months ago and we sold the house with a glowing HVAC report. Same chatty tech told me I had a weak capacitor on one furnace and he could swap it out for $300 or I could order one online for $10. He gave me the part number and I did.
