This is probably a basic question, but I have only rented a car a few times in my middle-aged life.
I'm a New Yorker with a Progressive auto policy that I downgraded a while back. Car is a 2012 model. There is no Comprehensive or Collision coverage.
I also carry the Capital One Venture X card, and it offers primary auto rental collision damage waiver insurance. I don't fully understand what that is. To use this Venture X benefit, their literature says I have to decline a coverage offering from the car rental company.
In July I will be checking out Vancouver Island, BC and will rent an economy car for ten days. Reserved one with Priceline (Victoria BC Budget location). Deal is for CA$714.45.
What coverages should I buy from the car rental company? My initial plan was to restore comprehensive and collision to my own policy with Progressive, but I can't do it online and they would want me to get my 2012 Mazda checked out. And I think I waited too late.
Priceline is offering a "Collision Damage Protection" deal that "provides up to $75,000 for repair costs with $0 deductible and is cancellable until your requested pick-up time." Do I take that?
Thanks for any tips or guidance.
