With the customer's permission the business can treat the paper check as an E-Check and it then goes through the ACH.What do you mean by "direct debited?" I think the reason for refusing a personal check is the risk that the check will bounce several days later after they do all the paperwork and you drive away with the car.Given that most checks given to businesses are direct debited to the account of the writer, there isn't any real reason for refusing a check.
