ACATS works for transferring cash as well, but I believe you'd be charged a fee ($75 I think) by Etrade. You're better off linking your BoA checking account to Etrade (meaning, do the linking on etrade.com not on ME's site), and then push the $100K to BoA. Then transfer from BoA to ME, which is instant. My problem with doing it that way is that I will be transferring cash only, since I would have to sell 100K worth of GABXX at etrade (Gabelli US Treasury Money market) which Merrill does not offer. Does it work for transferring cash? There is no need to link accounts. What you do is initiate a transfer of assets at ME with etrade as your source brokerage where as assets are coming from.rustlers I tried linking my etrade account to ME but apparently it only allows to link checking/savings accounts for cash transfers. There is an option to transfer assets or the whole account from other brokerages but I want to transfer only 100K in cash from etrade since the rest I want to keep there in GABXX (but switching to VCTXX next week). The 100K will go into TTTXX at ME...I will actually transfer a bit more to make sure.KingofRMD, you should be able to initiate a transfer of assets in your ME account to transfer those directly from your etrade brokerage. No need to link accounts nor move funds to the Alliant checking.
I was able to link my Alliant checking to ME...so my plan is to pull from there after transferring from etrade. Should take less than 45 days
I'm sure I'm missing the obvious...do you know of any other ways to link my etrade? maybe customer service can do the transfer?
Then you can specify the security and the quantity to meet your $ requirements, since you are only doing partial transfers, so your etrade brokerage will remain open. The tricky thing is to see what ME accepts since you are not transferring ETFs. It has been a while since I did this but process is probably the same.
If you do decide to do ACATS, it can all be requested online on the ME site. Go to Accounts > Transfer Money & Securities, then the Securities & Accounts tab.
