My EVSE is made in Canada and rated to work outdoors down to -22F. As previously mentioned, trickle charging outside in very cold weather might see a substantial drop in range added, but if you are level 2 charging at >3 kW, you should have more than enough power to warm the battery and add charge simultaneously. Plus, you can program the car to precondition for your morning commute while still plugged in, which greatly mitigates range loss in cold weather as you aren't wasting a chunk of your battery power overcoming thermal inertia to heat everything up.I guess we need more info to understand this, like "how cold?" Where I live, tonight there will be a low of -1F. Down the street there is an apartment complex where all cars park outside. Will none of the EV owners there have any issues with starting, charging, or operating their EVs tomorrow morning?no problems charging in the cold.
So yeah, I think I would be fine...but I also have a garage and level 2 charging. I completely agree that there are a lot of people out there for whom EVs aren't the best choice yet, but nobody here is saying EVs are the best choice for everyone right now anyway.
Edit: corrected typo
