Again .. for those who think the vets are doing this unnecessarily and for the money for them ... logically explain my direct cat experience over the last 30+ years of cat ownership.
During that time I've usually had three cats at a time. A total of 8 different cats.
I had Vet 1 at the beginning of the time period and Vet 2 for about the last 10 years.
Vet 1 recommended the procedure on one of the cats. He'd seen 5 of them.
Vet 2 recommended the procedure (now twice) on one of the cats. Her practice had seen 4 of them (overlap of 1 being seen by both).
So 2 procedures recommended for 8 cats.
If all the allegations are true that I've read being made here ... why were only 25% of my cats recommended for this procedure?
The only commonality between the two cats who did get the procedure which I think is highly coincidental is that they are / were both female and swirly three color (black / brown / orange).
After I wrote that I had to do a search and was happy with the results:

"The good news? Almost no health issues come with your cat being a tortoiseshell, and that’s because tortoiseshell is a color, not a breed."
