Personal Consumer Issues • Living in 55+ Communities?

I live part-time in a neighborhood / hoa that is partially an over 55 community in Florida (the houses aren’t, the condo’s are age restricted). I grew up in an over 55 community when I was 15 to 18 years old near here. Children of residents had to be 15. I liked it. BUT the average age was closer to well over 55 maybe closer to 75 in both neighborhoods from my unscientific observation. Where we live now has two of our 5 physically nearest neighbors being shut ins with caregivers visiting daily. From what I see most people don’t retire at age 50 or even 60 like we did. I would visit the pool or walk the common areas to make sure the age group community is what you are expecting. Nothing against anyone as we all get older - just don’t expect an over 55 yr old community to have many people close to 55. We don’t live in the villages but we have visited there - not sure if my unscientific age survey applies there too. Good luck. Great idea to rent for a bit to check it out.
I have relatives who live in the Villages. Every bad thing you have heard about the Villages is true.
What bad things specifically are you referring to? Serious question.
tunafish's post made me think of the documentary, The Bubble (2021). (It can be watched in its entirety on YouTube: https://youtu.be/Jp0nqJ1yrrg)

The summary blurb from IMDb:
"The Bubble examines often-surreal senior citizen life within The Villages, America's largest retirement community. Retired life beneath the Floridian sunshine however, is not perhaps as idyllic, or as welcomed, as one may imagine."
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12826806/
That movie is kind of funny... for a lot of reasons. There are subjective things referenced that would be appeal to some and turn off others. Much like American life(TM).

Anyway... One poignant takeaway from the YouTube comments that gets a +1 from me regarding places like this: "This is the last generation that will have money like this for retirement". My generation (Millennial/Zoomer) has no use for places like this, even among those of us with means, that's for sure.
