You can pretty much say whatever you want about your income when requesting a credit-limit increase. Now, if you max out your credit card and can't pay it back, that, of course, is on you. That's why increases don't involve a background check.I've opened many credit cards over the years and they have never once asked me for any proof of my income. This applies to multiple different banks. I do have an 800+ credit score though.
