In my experience, 1-3 hours away is too far as a single parent ages when they need regular help or have a medical crisis. Consider buying or renting housing very close by you

Our parents didn't need much help, until suddenly they needed a ton of help. Getting a phone call at 7am about something that requires a lot of intervention (and a chunk of the day) has happened more times than I can count
