Vanguard Admiral Wellington 457 8.5k

This looks to me like you currently have:
$284.5K in tax-deferred and
$ 31K in Taxable

After you purchase the $96K of service credits, you will be left with only $188.5K in tax-deferred.

Unless you already have fully paid-up housing for the rest of your life and your pension (is it inflation-adjusted?) covers all your living expenses including income taxes, I don't see how you can afford to retire.

Maybe I'm missing something? :?

Have you paid into SS so you can collect that too?
