I replaced the “non-replaceable” battery of my favorite Braun Oral B in 2018, when it was seven years old. It would only keep a charge for a day or two before servicing.

I used a larger capacity NiNM battery, which entailed trimming the spring that holds the battery tight against the contacts.

Still works fantastic in 2024. I only charge it when the battery level goes down to two bars.

Battery replacement was an easy project that does require some light soldering, as the battery is soldered.
The hardest part is getting everything apart, but that’s not bad. The tool to open it is actually built into the power plug, because everyone is supposed to remove the NiMM battery for proper battery disposal before disposing of the toothbrush at end of life.
With battery replacements every 8-12 years, it could easily last decades with twice daily use. Instructions with photos are available. I used the recommended NiMH replacement battery, and purchased it from Amazon.
