I think we'll have a taxable estate. I suppose it depends on how the lifetime exemptions change over time. We expect our NW to be around $23-24m by the end of 2025. The plan is to put $10-12m into a trust and use up most of my exemption. My wife/I don't expect distributions for ourselves. The SLAT access is merely a backup. Of course, we'd like our son to use the money while he's still young and starting out.
> What does your regular trusts and estates lawyer recommend? Why isn't he/she taking the lead on this?
They didn't made a recommendation but I plan to follow-up. The SLANT was introduced towards the end of the free consultation. I was asked if I'd prefer a SLAT, SLANT or both. Honestly, I was already a bit overwhelmed to be asking more questions but I really should have turned it around. This is a nearly 5.0/AV rated lawyer on Martindale that came referred and has relevant experience/publications. I do appreciate their time. Perhaps I need to do a better job at being an effective/informed consumer.
Thanks.
