We have been doing Via Ferrata Climbs all over the Alps for a number of years. Best for first try is to do with a guide and learn best safety practices.
Two guides I would highly recommend:

If you use Cicerone guides by Gillian Price you may not need a tour outfit. I avoid the spaghetti tours ie over crowded. Tour of Mt Blanc and now unfortunately the Alta Via 1. Now maybe best to base in a central town and do day tours and Via Ferrata with a guide.
Our favorite bases are Cortina, Corvarra, Val Gardena, and further afield Madonna di Compiglia in the Brenta Dolomites, Bolzano etc
